Predicting Time

After the last month and a half of work I’ve come to a singular conclusion. I really suck at predicting how long it will take me to complete a project.

In early March I had discussed some of the work I had already done with Scott, and we decided to meet that weekend to try to improve on that work. In order to do that I needed to write a “quick” application to generate some files. I thought I could get that done by the weekend no problem, starting on Wednesday afternoon. By the time Friday afternoon came up I thought I could see the finish line and still planned on getting to work with Scott over the weekend. Two weeks later and I could still see the finish line, fortunately I also crossed it at that time.

On the 6th, a similar project that Luc and I started we both kind of predicted that it would take us less than a week…we both swear it will be done tomorrow…I hope so I’ve got a tight deadline on other projects that require this to be done first.
