The search for extra-solar planets continues…SETI style

Space.com is reporting that a new distributed computing application is starting up that will be used to try to find extra-solar planets by looking for stars that brighten or dim as planets pass in front of them.

Unfortunately the website for the PlanetQuest project isn’t very up to date. But the Space.com article and the download page says they are beginning alpha testing. Fortunately they are using BOINC so I can run it along with the other distributed projects I take part in. I’m already #5 in the Bad Astronomy and Universe Today team for SETI (#3 if you order by average credit).

Checking my BOINC manager I am already running Einstein, LHCA, SETI, and microFluids…I’ll gladly add PlanetQuest when its released though!
