Cool Animation

The Center for Space Standards & Innovation has produced a high res animation (40MB for 1280×720 WMV, 558MB for broadcast quality QuickTime) depicting the orbit of ISS and other satellites in relation to the orbit of the debris produced when China tested its anti-satellite missile.

I knew there were a ton of satellites orbiting the Earth, but I had no idea there were so many that didn’t have the orbit I think of when I picture a satellite’s orbit. You can see this in the last part of the animation with the green and red dots.
