Earlier today I finally had a chance to watch Thank You For Smoking, which I downloaded from Unbox to my TiVo. I have no idea how long it took to download, but the quality seemed pretty good. Like I experience with DVDs, the audio level was quite low so I had to turn it up about 40% to be able to hear all of the dialogue. This of course wreaked audio havok when I had to skip back a few seconds to hear some dialogue I missed.
It would be nice to have an audio boost option for unbox videos that can be enabled if this is how it will be for all unbox downloads.
That only brings the service down to price. $3.99 for a rental probably isn’t worth it, netflix, blockbuster, etc all probably beat this price. The prices for owning videos seemed to compare well with what the DVD would cost you. The only question is whether the price will continue to be competitive with retail stores.
The $15 Amazon/TiVo gave me just for registering before some date in April is a nice bonus so I’ll be sure to download more to use that up….beyond that its all up to whether the whim strikes me and how tempting the per-episode downloads can be.
