Unofficial Canon firmware

The guys at wired have put up a blog post linking to an unofficial firmware upgrade (ie someone did some cracking).  The reason I’m posting this is that the firmware adds a feature that I couldn’t believe the Canon S3 IS doesn’t have….a battery indicator!

The new firmware on the other hand not only adds a battery indicator but RAW support and histogram as well as a bevy of other features.

RAW shooting
Live histogram
Zebra mode (blinking highlights and shadows)
Depth of Field calculator
Battery indicator
Scripts execution (exposure/focus/… bracketing, intervalometer and more)
File browser
Text reader

What’s more, the installation is simple and doesn’t permanately effect the camera so you can undo it at anytime or upgrade to a newer version.
